Eye-movements can help disentangle mechanisms underlying disfluency

To reveal the underlying cause of disfluency, several authors related pattern disfluencies to difficulties at specific levels production, using a Network Task. Given that are multifactorial, we combined this paradigm with eye-tracking disentangle disfluency word preparation from others (e.g. stalling strategies). We manipulated lexical and grammatical selection difficulty. In Experiment 1, lines connecting pictures varied in length, which led participants use strategy inspect other areas than upcoming picture when were preceded by long lines. 2 only used short both experiments, difficulty promoted self-corrections, pauses longer fixation latency prior naming. Multivariate Pattern Analyses demonstrated eye-movement data patterns can predict Eye-tracking could provide complementary information about network tasks, disentangling naming self-monitoring or strategies.
